Prof. Miguel Ángel Pradilla Cardona to teach a course in Catalan sociolinguistics at The Graduate Center - CUNY

Prof. Miquel Àngel Pradilla of the Unviersity Rovira i Virgili was invited by The Mercè Rodoreda Chair for Catalan Language and Literature at The Graduate Center - CUNY to teach a course in Catalan sociolinguistics this Fall 2020 Semester. The Rodoreda Chair, created in 2003 and funded by Institut Ramon Llull, each semester offers a course in Catalan literature and culture, or a course in Catalan sociolinguistics, alternatively. 

Miquel Àngel Pradilla Cardona is Professor of Phonetics, Phonology and Sociolinguistics at the University Rovira i Virgili. He is a member of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans and a member of the Consell Social de la Llengua Catalana de la Generalitat de Catalunya. He is also a founding member of ISIC-IVITRA and sicne 2009 he directs the Xarxa Cruscat (Institut d’Estudis Catalans). He is the auhtor of numerous monographic studies, among which we could mention: El Baix Maestrat: una cruïlla fonètica (1996), El laberint valencià. Apunts per a una sociolingüística del conflicte (2004), Sociolingüística de la variació i llengua catalana (2008), La tribu valenciana. Reflexions per a una sociolingüística del conflicte (2008), De política i planificació lingüística. Mirades contemporànies a l’ecosistema comunicatiu valencià (2011, and La catalanofonia. Una comunitat del segle xxi a la recerca de la normalitat lingüística (2015). He has co-authored several monographs, such as Comentari lingüístic de textos. Teoria i pràctica (1990), La sociolingüística de la variació (1995), El joc ancestral de la paraula (1997), Multilingualism in Spain (2000), Ideologia i conflicte lingüístic (2001), Estadística sobre els usos lingüístics a Catalunya (2003). He has also edited or co-edited, among others, El món dels sons (1998), Ecosistema comunicatiu. Llengua i variació (1998), La llengua catalana al tombant del mil·lenni (1999), Societat, llengua i norma. A l’entorn de la normativització de la llengua catalana (2001), Identitat lingüística i estandardització (2003), Llengua i literatura a les comarques de la diòcesi de Tortosa (2003), Història i territori a les comarques de la diòcesi de Tortosa (2004), Jornades de la Secció Filològica de l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans a Morella (2006), Art i lletres a les comarques de la diòcesi de Tortosa (2008), etc.
