Residential course on poetry translation between Catalan, Basque and Galician

The Etxepare Euskal Institutua, the Conselo da Cultura Gallega and the Institut Ramon Llull have announced the opening of applications from established and emerging translators who want to participate in a residential course for poetry translation in Faberllull Olot.




The aim of the project is to offer translators a space for work, inspiration and exchange. The residential course will be divided into two parts: group activities to encourage exchange between residents that will include meetings with other translators and authors for inspiration and guidance, and individual work in which each translator can work on their own translation project.

Participation in the course will qualify translators to take part in a literary festival in the organisers’ home territories.

What is included?

  • A seven-night stay at the Faberllull residence in Olot on half-board.
  • Return travel to the residence
  • A fee of €350

When does the course take place take place?

  • 1-8 April 2022

Who can apply?

  • Translators of poetry in Catalan, Basque and Galician into at least one of those languages. Candidates must as a minimum have had work published in book format or in a literary journal. Self-published works do not qualify.

How do I apply?

  • A cover letter. To include a brief summary of your career and your reasons for applying for the residential course. It must be in Galician, Basque or Catalan.
  • A CV that includes your publications. The CV should state whether you have translated other literary genres besides poetry.
  • A brief description of the project you want to work on.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

What do I commit to by applying?

  • Full availability every day of the residential course.
  • Commitment to the project submitted and participation in programmed activities.
  • Submission of the work carried out during the course and grant of non-exclusive publication rights to the organisers.
  • Availability to participate in a literary festival in 2022, after the end of the course.

How will candidates be selected?

Based on the documentation submitted, candidates will be evaluated by a committee made up of representatives of the three organisers and a representative from the translators’ associations in each region.

A maximum of two candidates will be selected for each translation direction.

Notification of results

Applicants will be notified of the results from 15 December 2021. Successful applicants will be notified individually and the list of projects will be published on the websites of Faberllull, the Institut Ramon Llull, the Etxepare Euskal Institutua and the Consello da Cultura Gallega.

The organisers reserve the right to extend the time for selection if a large number of applications is received
